Cathedral of Santa Maria

The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Vitoria, popularly known as the Old Cathedral, is a Gothic-style Catholic temple located in Vitoria. Since the summer of 2015, the temple has been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage monuments under the name Camino de Santiago: French Way and Roads of Northern Spain. It is located at the highest part of the hill on which the original city was founded in 1181. This temple, according to stylistic and formal criteria, is discreet and its relevance is credited to its complex construction.

Plaza de los Fueros

It is a triangular-shape square located in the Ensanche of Vitoria. It was built in 1979 by the architect Luis Peña Ganchegui, in collaboration with Eduardo Chillida, Luis Carlos Roda, Roberto Fernández and Emilio Truchuelo. Located next to the Casa de Correos in Vitoria, Plaza de los Fueros is mainly used during the celebrations of La Blanca, which occur in August. During these days, the square hosts various leisure activities, including concerts.

Plaza de la Virgen Blanca

The Old Square, also known as Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, is the main meeting place in Vitoria. It is situated between the neighborhoods of Casco Viejo and the Ensanche. The square is surrounded by white houses and in the center stands a monument commemorating the Battle of Vitoria,a significant event during the War of Independence.

In 2007, the square underwent a major renovation, during which the pavement was replaced and the green areas were removed.

Celedón

Celedón is the character who, with his arrival coming down from the sky with an umbrella opens the festivities of Vitoria in the Basque province of Álava.

The celebrations in Vitoria are held in honour of the White Virgin Mary, which is celebrated on the 5th of August. The celebration begins with the descent of Celedón, which takes place in Plaza de la Virgen Blanca before a large crowd that greets the character by lighting cigars and opening bottles of champagne.

Muralla de Vitoria

The wall was a walled enclosure that fortified the town of Vitoria in the Middle Ages, and its construction took place at the end of the 11th century.

It retains approximately half of its total volume and was recovered at the beginning of the 21st century in a project that received an award from the organization Europa Nostra in 2010.

Machete Square

In the southern area of Casco Viejo is a beautiful medieval corner. It owes its name to the 'Machete' (Machete de San Miguel), which is kept in an urn in the apse of the Church of San Miguel.

Several cultural festivals are held here throughout the year. Beneath the Machete, an oath engraved in stone recalls the ceremony where the Attorney General had to pledge allegiance before the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The Thread of Time (Mural)

The title comes from the historical reality of the square, which in medieval times was a market of clothes.

The wall measures more than 225 m2, and 13 volunteers participated: both artists and amateurs. After two weeks of intense sketching, it was painted over four weeks on a scaffold donated by the Foundation Santa Maria Cathedral.

Nacedero de Urederra:

Since 1987, Nacedero del Urederra has been a natural reserve, but more than that, it is one of the most stunning spots in Navarra. Here, you can find a wide variety of plants and animals. However, the most impressive features are the small waterfalls that create beautiful natural fountains with turquoise water. You'll have to pinch yourself to believe that what you are witnessing is real and completely natural.
